problematic children

Tyler's red medication (to which they can find no alternative) is evil. I am 100% convinced that red dye is a huge problem for Tyler. I'm not naive enough to think that it accounts for all his issues, but i know it's a huge factor. He had been doing wonderfully for over a week, and then he started the medicine and it has been all downhill from then. Hitting, kicking, impulsive behavior, name calling, etc.

On Tuesday he was running down the hallway and tripped and managed to graze his head on the fireplace on the way down. If he were just a tad closer it could have been horrible, but Tyler found this to be horrible. In his defense it had to have been scary and it had to have hurt. He spent about an hour on my lap crying and then the rest of the day upset about it. Apparently pain tolerance isnt' a strong point of his. That same afternoon Jason tripped and went straight into the rough corner of ther ottoman. We all needed to get out of the house so it was off to Chick-fil-A. Ty was so upset about his face that he didn't want to play in the play area unless I was with him. So after we ate I went in. Jason can now climb up, which means that I was up in that darn play area with both boys. I can be thankful that we were the only ones in there!

Tyler was so upset about the injury that he didn't want to go to school, for the first time ever. I did get him there, along with a note to the teacher about what happened and not to hesitate to call me if he was having trouble (his eye had swollen a lot overnight). They apparenlty sent him to the nurse's office. He apparently was questioned as to what happened, and he responded "I don't know", so I'm now awaiting my visit from Child Protective Services. LOL.

But it's not all bad around here. In fact, it's pretty good. Jason has slept through the night for 4 of the past 5 nights! He is using the sign "open" spontaneously (although not even close to what it should really look like). He's trying to make animal noises. Not successful, but trying.

Tyler got his replacement "daddy pillow" in the mail, so he's happy to sleep with daddy every night. He has gotten a few phone calls from daddy, as well as 2 short phone calls. And he has only 2.5 more days of the evil red medicine!

That looks very painful! Poor guy. Good news though on the sleeping front with Jason!
