Memorial Day had arrived and we had yet to decorate Tyler's bike and Jason's wagon for the parade. We did that bright and early and were already sweating in the heat at only 8:00am. This would be Tyler's first year participating in the parade. He was excited to learn that he'd earn a shiny silver dollar for his participation. I would have happily handed over 5 shiny silver dollars so that we would NOT have to participate. LOL. Parades aren't my thing. Parades in high heat and humidity definitely aren't my thing. He's lucky I love him!
At 9:30 we went over to Wilson Field to register and await the start of what had to be the hottest parade in history!
Al walked/jogged next to Tyler as he rode with his age group. Al said he did well and kept up. I pulled Jason in the wagon back with his age group. He was too cute waving to the crowd. My mom and my brother Chris parked at PJ's and watched up parade on by (these photos provided by my mom's phone).
The parade ended at Memorial Circle, for a brief ceremony and flag raising. When it was all over Tyler received the customary silver dollar. He was so proud of himself. And sweaty. It looked like the child had just jumped in the lake!
After the parade ended we went over to Brooks field for the little "after party" sponsored by the Girl Scouts to raise money for their event. They had a water slide (PERFECT day for it) and races and food. Tyler loved the slide and pretty much was in line for that when he wasn't chowing down on hotdogs and water ice.
After returning from the parade ordeal I stayed with Jason so he could nap while Al took Tyler to the beach. As soon as Jason woke up we joined them. Beth and Erich were there with the girls as well as some other school friends, including Vivienne and her mom. Al's mom and John came to visit and so did my mom. So we had a big gang there at the crowded lake. It was a hot day and a holiday, and the lake was packed! Jason decided the crowd or the heat or something was too much and he was CRANKY. It took me probably 45 minutes to get him into the water at all. He would only tolerate the water if I held him a certain way and kept full body contact with him at all times. Poor little guy.
After a quick bath we went back to Champ's mom and John's for leftover BBQ food.
Overall a lovely Memorial Day. But HOT!
