movie in the park

On Sunday (way back on the 11th..I'm that far behind in blogging land), after a hot day in Great Adventure, we decided to bring the kids to the movie in the park. Medford Lakes doesn't normally do this, but it was a Girl Scout's service award for 2 girls and they arranged a 3-movie series for the month of July. We didn't' know if the kids would survive that late at night, but we figured it was worth a shot being as it was only maybe a 5 minute walk from the house. Well, the kids had a great time. ALL of them. Jason and Elise enjoyed the swings, as did Tyler and Jocelyn. Jason finally braved the school playground slide, after MONTHS of being scared again to do so. Jocelyn had a great time at the playground too. Meanwhile Tyler played a few games, made a craft, participated in a freeze dance contest, had his picture taken with mascots, etc. They had free popcorn and drinks, as well as candy, so that was a hit as well once we were getting ready to sit down and watch the movie. And right before the movie started they did a series of raffle drawings (we had free entries that we received for riding/walking to the movie...the theme was "dare to be green") and I won a $25 gift card to a local salon. Woohoo!

The feature presentation was "How to Eat Fried Worms", which honestly I probably wouldn't have let Tyler watch normally, but he loved it. Jocelyn watched intently, and Jason even enjoyed himself. Elise fell asleep, but aside from that everyone else made it through the movie. Luckily we had a short commute, because we didn't' get done until nearly 10:30pm!

So after a LATE night we got all the kids in bed and Marisa and I chatted for a little bit before bed. That next morning we took a group photo, I took Ty to camp, and then we spent the next 2-3 hours eating breakfast, getting dressed, and packing up Marisa's stuff. After a delayed start due to Marisa's dead car battery, we got on the road to meet up for lunch with Nadine before Marisa head on her way!
