March, already?

The weekend (and February) ended with a trip to the Burlington County College pool for public swim. We met Jen and her girls there, leaving Jason at home napping with my parents. If you read my blog back in the summer you might remember that Tyler didn't do too well with swimming lessons. In fact, for the first 2 weeks, he cried daily. I had been meaning to get him to the pool or swimming lessons this winter so that he wouldn't regress, but unfortunately I dropped the ball with that. Well, I'm happy to report that he did not regress. Didn't make progress necessarily, but didn't freak at the idea of going in the pool, so I was thrilled. And he had a great time with the girls. I was quite happy we went.

Monday came not a moment too soon. Happy to have Tyler back in school.

On Monday I had posted on facebook the following: For months I've been meaning to take out the car manual to determine how to change the clock to reflect the end of daylights savings time. Today I turn the calendar to March and find that daylight saving time begins in 13 days. For once my laziness has paid off.

Tyler came home from school on Monday all excited about Dr. Seuss's birthday celebration on Tuesday. I was shocked to hear that he was planning to read to his class! He also brought home the first "writing" assignment I've seen. Apparently "I mek sownaengels" is "I make snow angels". Too cute though, especially considering he's a wonderful reader but VERY hesitant writer.

After lunch Jason had his third speech therapy session. She continues to be impressed with his imitation skills and his desire to communicate. She wants me to buy some special teether that vibrates and maybe an electric toothbrush to try to increase awareness in his mouth. We continue to work on signs. I'm not sure if I mentioned, but Ive been hesitant to attempt to schedule the feeding team evaluation, feeling that he's been doing much better. I decided to wait and talk to the speech therapist, and her opinion is that I should pursue it if my insurance covers it. So after she left I spent Jason's entire nap time (plus some) of 80 minutes on the phone with my insurance company (again), doctor's, and various facilities to attempt to determine if this is a covered benefit. So incredibly frustrating. Eventually decided my only option was to push forward with the 7 month waiting list to have the feeding team evaluation at CHOP.

From there it was off to Melinda's Chick-fil-A to meet up for her family's kids night. Both boys had a great time. Jason was incredibly happy with his individual free ice cream. Overall, a pretty good day.

Today, I'll admit, I napped when Jason did this morning. I only got about 4 hours last night. It was nice indeed.

After school Tyler came bounding out of school. Immediately I knew something was up. Guess who had cupcakes with sprinkles at school? Everytime I begin to think that maybe the red dye theory is just in my head, he rises to the occasion and proves me wrong. Pretty crappy behavior today in general. Not fun at all.

I did get the call back from CHOP and only 3 of the 5 disciplines involved in the feeding evaluation would be covered, meaning I'd probably have to pay about $800 out of pocket. So I decided to pursue just the speech therapy portion of a feeding evaluation, so hopefully it will get approved by insurance before the appointment I had tentatively scheduled for Friday. Fun times. Sooooooo sick of insurance, appointments, doctors, specialists, etc. Incredibly thankful to have insurance though, so I shouldn't complain.

I had plans to meet with Beth at Chick-fil-A tonight for family kid's night (yes, again). I was hesitant due to Ty's behavior, but went forward with it. Tyler AND Mackenzie were both off, and Beth immediately mentioned Mackenzie having a rough time after school today. Crazy stuff. Tyler was SOOOO loud and off the wall. I had to sit him in time-out while there. Jason decided to screech and whine the whole time until I took him in the play area. A pretty frustrating experience, but if nothing else it kept us occupied until bedtime. Phew.
