September 27: Got Tyler dressed for class picture day, which was a battle, because I tortured Tyler by making him wear pants. Yes, I'm just that cruel. Then Jason got busy playing with his new birthday presents. The guitar from Aunt Dottie was the favorite of the morning.
Jason had his 2-year appointment at the doctor's office. I found it very odd that he got weighed fully clothed the height seemed very off, but I believe they said he was 32in and 27.5lbs. It doesn't even matter if that's what the wrote down or not, because I know neither number is what they claimed it was anyway. Regardless they determined he's "short" and "heavy". Most the the discussion centered around Jason's speech, or lack thereof. This pediatrician (one I had not seen in the practice before) decided that we should re-run his bloodwork to check iron levels, lead levels, and to see if he has the chicken pox immunity so we can avoid the vaccine. So we got a script for bloodwork. She also decided that she wants him seen by a developmental pediatrician as well as a geneticist. If you're curious about the reason for the geneticist, frankly I am too. I asked why and I was given a round-about answer the included the term "fragile X" twice but was assured that he doesn't appear to have any facial features that would indicate any particular diagnosis. They said, due to his delays (and particularly the regression that he experienced) as well as his short stature, they just want to rule out any potential conditions. I also questioned her about the rash on his stomach, which she claimed that she believed it was chiggers. My mom assures me that the rash is absolutely not chiggers, and everyone who has seen the rash agrees. So, my opinion on the pediatrician is a little iffy. Anyway, he got away with only one vaccine and I refused the flu vax cause I'm not sure how I feel about that vaccine to begin with and I really wanted to try to spread any future vaccines anyway.
I spent Jason's naptime trying to make these appointments with the specialists. Turns out developmental pediatricians are in high demand and short supply. At CHOP, where they recommended he be seen, the wait is approximately 15 months (we won't know for a while when he'll be scheduled. I also looked into Cooper Peds as well however they haven't even released the schedule for next year and I was told it's typically a 24-month wait. Fascinating...and frustrating. Still, at the time of this posting (2 weeks later) I have not even managed to secure a geneticist appointment either.
Jason's rash began to spread to his legs, so I was certain it wasn't chiggers. Decided to make the calls to cancel his therapies for the next day since I wasn't feeling well anyway. Still had to suck it up through Ty's karate anyway.
September 28: I was feeling better, and Jason still had no fever or other symptoms with his rash, so I decided to take him to the Garden State Discovery Museum to pass the rainy day while we should have been having therapy. He had fun and I love having time with just Jason to enjoy. Ty had 4 years of having mommy to himself and Jason just doesn't get that luxury nearly as much. Anyway, he particularly enjoyed making some snazzy toilet-paper-tube binoculars.
I had my dentist appointment that afternoon (scheduled brilliantly so my mom could stay home with him while he napped, but early enough so I could still be home to get Ty from school). It was the first appointment in a while where I got complimented on my teeth. Good times. I still hate the dentist though.
September 29: I had to take Jason to get that bloodwork done, which I dreaded. He actually was oddly cooperative, never even whining at all during the entire process. According to the phlebotomist he must be dehydrated (surprise, surprise) because his blood was very thick, which made it difficult to flow. They had to restick him 3 separate times, bend his arms, move the needles, etc all to get the 3 vials of blood filled. It was a loooonnnggg process and he managed to not shed a single tear until he tripped on the doorframe on the way out of the lab (go figure).
Otherwise an uneventful day, straight through til soccer practice and bed.
September 30: We went to the mall in the afternoon. At some dinner and got some great deals at Children's Place.
Afterwards we killed an hour or so at Chuck-e-cheese, using a coupon coupled with a gift card that Tyler was given for his birthday. Not too bad at all, and both boys had fun.
October 1: Apparently we did nothing other than school, naps, and karate. Not likely, but that's all I have record of.
October 2: The morning started off bright and early was the typical soccer game. This photo pretty much represents the amount of action we see Ty display in soccer each week. How many more weeks of this torture???
I kept Jason up from his nap so we could go support the Junior Women's 1st Halloween Costume Swap. I, being a neglectful parents, wasn't paying close enough attention when Jason fell off stage hitting his head. My poor baby. I had never seen him hurt so badly, considering he doesn't normally get hurt when he falls so regularly. Felt pretty guilty about that, but luckily seemed okay after a few minutes and wanted to stay and showed no signs of a concussion. Pretty big bump though.
While Jason napped I took the opportunity to attempt to continue to teach Ty to ride a 2-wheeler. My dad had taken the training wheels off his old bike cause i heard it was easier to teach on a smaller bike, plus it meant that his current bike is still available to ride to school until he learns. It didn't' go well, although I didn't expect it to. The child is beyond dramatic and I'm fairly certain all of Medford Lakes heard the screams and shrieks when he scraped his leg. There is no amount of padding that will protect him.
After the boys were in bed I spent literally the entire evening trying to sew on the patches for Ty's Tiger Scout uniform. Granted I would have saved an hour had I known where the correct supplies were in the house, and then I would have saved another 1/2 hour or so if they would just provide you with a detailed diagram of where the patches go so I wouldn't have to go searching out this information in books and various websites. Anyway, it's done now, but my fingers hurt for days..the one patch was thick!
